Shoplifter threatens to stab Tesco Express worker who confronted him over bag of stolen items worth £50.

A shoplifter threatened to stab a member of staff who confronted him as he fled with stolen goods from Tesco Express in Bishop’s Stortford town centre.

The thief held up a key as the South Street supermarket employee tried to stop him leaving.

The incident happened on bank holiday Monday (May 3) between 10.45pm and 11pm. It was the second shoplifting offence reported by the store in as many days.

PC Derek Lewin, of Bishop’s Stortford police’s Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “The suspect entered the store with an empty Sports Direct bag, filled it with various items and then left without making any attempt to pay for those items.

“The suspect was confronted by a member of staff and threatened to stab him, holding up a key. This person stepped back and the man brushed past him and headed out into the street.”
