Police link two burglaries in Rye Street area of Bishop’s Stortford.

Police are linking a burglary and an attempted burglary in neighbouring streets in Bishop’s Stortford where the intruders broke in via the side gates.

Gold jewellery, including a wedding ring and gold chain, were stolen from a house in Elm Road, between Barrells Down Road and Cricketfield Lane, on Saturday evening, between 7pm and 11.15pm.

The owner returned home to find burlgars had opened a side gate and climbed in through a downstairs bathroom window.

Later the same night, in the early hours of Sunday, an 85-year-old woman living in Rye Street was woken by a noise outside. She discovered in the morning that her iron side gate had been removed from its hinges and propped up against the wall.
